TeamSpeak 3

We have seen this image on their site for quite a while. Well we don’t have to wait much longer. Starting December 19th they are releasing TeamSpeak3 beta! Also our host is allowing us to upgrade. They said once they have the servers setup and verified, we will be able to upgrade our server. It is important to note that with this upgrade, it will require us to obtain a new IP. Once we switch over, our old server will no longer be up. As soon as the new server is up, the information will be posted here in our forums. Everyone will have to re-register. I will try to get everyone available at the time to load and login so the accounts can be created. If you don’t know much about TS3 then get out from underneath your rock and read a little about it. Info can be found HERE

The PC community has lost yet another game.

October 20th, 2009

Posted in: Game News

Well with recent news it is obvious that Infinity Ward has decided to abandon the PC community and develop games mainly for consoles. Below is the official response that was tweeted which has since been taken down due to the negative response by the PC community and how we are insulted by their comments.

“Modern Warfare fansite bashandslash.com recently reported that Infinity Ward is removing dedicated server functionality from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. With dedicated servers and the server browser that comes with them replaced with custom-built matchmaking, PC gamers will have an online experience functionally identical to console players. Among other things, this means that clans can’t run their own servers with their own mods and rulesets for their own private (or public, if they feel like crushing some scrubs for giggles) use.

Predictably, nerds across world took to the Internet with a wailing and a gnashing of teeth that would make the Left 4 Dead community proud. An online petition to bring back dedicated servers at the time of this writing stands at 100,000+ signatures. However — and this may shock some gamers with advanced persecution complexes — this move was not made to tweak the noses of the PC community. Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella explain the decision as a conscious effort to improve their game for the vast majority of their players.

“We’re just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners,” says West. He points toward the mounting feedback IW has received from PC fans of Modern Warfare who couldn’t find a decent server to play on between all of the cheaters, the insular communities, and huge skill level disparities that the original game’s community fractured into. “We thought maybe it would be cool if the fans could play the game,” he laughs.

IW says that gameplay concerns for the majority of MW2 players are the overriding reasons for the decision. Zampella downplays the obvious piracy prevention angle (IW has cited numbers of people online playing illegal copies of Modern Warfare up to 60 percent). “The Steam stuff helps with the piracy. I don’t know that the matchmaking stuff does,” he notes. West takes a shot at the motives behind some of the outrage, noting that there’s money to made by selling dedicates servers and adspace on them: “It’s a little dubious. Some of the people complaining are complaining with their pocketbook.”

Again and again during our conversation, West and Zampella hammer the point that hardcore PC players lose very little to this change relative to the returns that casual to moderate fans will see. Clans can set up private matches to do their training or what have you; all they lose is the ability to customize the game on a deeper level with mods and such. Infinity Ward sees the addition of solid matchmaking and community support like IW-run tournaments to the PC as a huge win, and not something that could be done under the old system.

Why not have both? West does not want to include dedicated servers alongside the custom-built backend, stating that it would just “bifurcate the community.”"

Well there you have it. Also here is 402’s response. Seems like they are trying to make a broken console system work on PC’s yet again. How many game developers are we going to loose? Please take a stand and cancel your pre-order and let these people know you will not stand for Sub-Par games at $60.00 instead of the traditional $50.00

Also you can click on the image above to sign a petition that currently at this time has well over 100,000 signatures. This petition is to show your support to have dedicated servers because they are essential aspects of any Team Based FPS game.

Season 4 is over!

Season 4 of TWL has officially ended. We came out of it with 3 wins and 4 losses. Not bad for a buncha pubbers, i’d say. We played some pretty tough teams and we have grown quite a lot since the beginning. We have more teamwork, communication and some of us have a new sense of how to play in competition. We ended the season on a great note! We played a team that had previously steamrolled us, so for us to get a win was an awesome feeling. To see all of our match and scrim results go to our scrim section on the forums.

We would like to thank all of the teams that have helped us get to where we are now. 3D and HK, we have a blast scrimming you guys and it’s not always easy to find teams that won’t spit on you when your skills aren’t up to par, so thank you. I’m not sure we would have gotten this far without you guys. We appreciate all the teams that completely rolled over us and didn’t hold back. We always tried to take something from the experience and it helped us learn something every time. We also thank our friends and clanmates for any and all kind words, tips and suggestions and your general support.

Next season starts October 26th. We will be shifting around our players, dropping some and gaining new ones. We will be taking some time to relax, but always welcome scrims and PuGs. Just go to the above mentioned section and post or get in contact with us on steam. We look forward to season 5 and hope to keep improving every step of the way.

Well, we’re finally here. The template revamp I’ve been rambling about since before last August! However, you will come to see that this is far more than your generic template revamp.

All Constant Mayhem Society members now have their own blogs that they may use as they see fit. If you are a member, by now you should have received an email (sent to the address you use on the forums) that contains your credentials for logging in to your blog.

What should you blog about? Anything you think others might find interesting! Blog about that band you and your buddies are in. Blog about how to grow a garden. Blog about that wierd guy you saw on the bus (who was probably me ;-) ). I encourage you to blog about whatever. If you make it interesting, the readers will come! Thinking the topic of one of your entries warrants some discussion? Start a thread on the forum and let the discussion commence.

If you have any problems, feel free to contact me. If you notice a bug, don’t hesitate to report it!
