About me!

I have been playing PC online FPS for about two years now.  Since then I have been in only three clans, including CMS.  I try to be a skilled player in every game I play.  I am certainly no pro, and would never describe myself that way.  I guess you could say I’m an amateur gamer.  Reading Dragons’s post I’ve realized how short mine is.  So I guess I will go in-depth more.

Let me start by saying this, I have not been playing games that long, and I haven’t played a ton of games.  I have always been a computer person.  My dad’s first well paying job out of college was a programmer for a bank in Seattle.  He later moved on to doing installs for IBM, and now he is a Technical salesmen for IBM.  So we always had a computer around the house, and when I was young the coolest thing was him opening up the computer to fix it.  Of course, I had as much of an idea then about what was inside as that old lady that calls you to help with her “computer box thing.”  When I was young I was that kid that loved technology, and I just loved to take things apart, didn’t matter if I knew how to put them together.  My uncle did a lot of the same things my dad did for work, just different companies, so he too, was a computer person.

The first computer game I played (or at least the first I remember) was Descent.  I played that on an extremely old joystick…that is still in my room at home actually.  Later on, I played Mechwarrior and Warcraft II.  My favorite game when I was young was Red Alert.  I played the very first one, and every sequel/expansion since.  After that I didn’t play many PC games outside of Warcraft II (played Warcraft III for just a little) and Red Alert, along with General, which was a lot like Red Alert.  When I was 13 or so I got a PS2.

After getting my PS2 I played a lot less PC games.  I played a lot of sports games, however, my favorite PS2 game is God of War, hands down, no competition.  When I was 17 I got a game for my dad called Medieval Total war II.  I had played Rome Total war, and had loved it.  However, neither of our computers could run it.  The best one we had only had a nvidia 6200 in it.  So my dad decided he was going to get me a Gaming PC for my birthday.  I was already 17, so it was going to be a late birthday gift by about a month.  We went to the local PC store to order a custom built one.  It had a 8800 GTS 320MB card, with a AMD dual core 4600+.  Nothing amazing, however it was good for its time.  One of my good friends, Cody, game me a hand full of games to try out.  I wanted to play CS:S first, however the first week I didn’t have internets on that computer, so i had to play a SP game.  He told me I HAD to try out FEAR no matter what.  So i played about half way through SP, and I absolutely loved it!

After a week that, I finally hooked the gaming rig up to the internet.  The first thing i did was play FEAR combat.  I sucked horribly, it was the first online FPS i had EVER played…. EVER.  I started playing on a server called [UC], under the name jdogg18.  I never used the g2, I only used pistols.  One day I was playing, and a guy came in who was pretty good.  He asked me if I would like to tryout for his clan.  His name was Camel and he was in «Ca».  I applied on their forums, and I had a tryout.  Needed less to say, I did horrible.  I played severed, and he beat me about 38-6.  They let me in however, because they thought I had a lot of potential.  I joined in early May.

I kept playing and trying to get better at FEAR.  I later met Asiaman, ghost, Wraith and Algaven.  Including myself and camel, we became the core of «Ca» (which stood for Counter Assault).  We competed in TWL, and after a few weeks of improving, I joined the starting roster.  We were no pro clan at all, infact, we got our asses handed to us daily by |FT|.  The only one who didn’t get raped was Algaven.  Later in July, people in the clan started to play less.  We got some new recruits, that didn’t seem to pay attention.  For me the breaking point was a scrim vs FH| where we lost…by a lot.  FH| was not as good as us, and with Asiaman, ghost, and myself on the team, we had plenty of leadership.  However, nobody listened, and it annoyed me to no end.  That was when I decided to change my name to defiance, and try to join TH|.  When I first asked about trying out, I was told to talk to Noobina, who said they would be recruiting again in about a week.  So I played on their server with them until they opened up recruitment.  I was able to tryout, and I had a 1v1 with Impact, that I lost.  However, Impact was a very good player, and I did pretty well against him,  So in early August I joined TH|.  The day I joined I let «Ca» know I was leaving.  I was still involved with the clan, for example, I tried some people out for them.

During August (my first month with TH|) I was nervous at first.  I didn’t talk a lot on TS.  As time went on I got more familiar with the people in the clan, and started to chat with them a lot more.  I started to enjoy FEAR a lot more with people on every night to play with.  I also started to improve and become a more rounded player.  As time went on I became more active with the clan, and became a server admin for the pub.  Eventually we started playing in TWL, which was a ton of fun, although as the game started to die, TWL started taking leagues out.  Noobina and I started to get closer too.  On October 14th we started dating.  That date is one of the happiest days of my life.  However, this is about gaming :P so I’ll keep the loving stuff for a later post.  In December, we split from TH| to make [CMS].

The months before I had started to dislike Techna, and the way he ran things.  He was a very busy person, and didn’t have a lot of time to be on and play.  There was nothing wrong with that, he put Noobina, and later Finedragon, in charge, and they did a very good job.  However, he would make some decisions, and promote some people, that should have been made by somebody that was around.  He payed for the servers, and everything, until he said he was going to shut down the FEAR server to focus more on TF2.  Even though at that time not a lot of people played TF2.  Most of us were still playing FEAR, and we still had an active server.  After that, Noobina and Finedragon started paying for most things.  Even then, Techna acted like he totally owned the place.  Then, one day he just decided to restart the FEAR server even though it was half full.  His reason for it “I can do whatever I want.”  After that, I really didn’t like him at all, and thought he should leave the leadership up to people that know what they are doing, and are around to make the proper changes.  These however, were not the reasons why I was later Kicked from the clan, banned from the forums, all in a matter of an hour.

It was in December, and Noobina and I were playing fear.  Techna came in the server, and we exchanged some words.  It led to me telling him off, and him banning me.  It was without reason, and Techna was just being Techna, I hadn’t done anything to provoke him, he just went after me.  For the first time in my online FPS gaming career (however short it was), I was without a clan.  This made me very sad, I really loved being in a clan with Noobina, and I couldn’t imagine leaving the clan.  I talked to her, and she talked to dragon, she told me they were going to do something, but I just had to be patient (something I’m horrible at).  Later that night, I got on a new TS and was told that we were going to make a new clan named [CMS].  This was NOT because of things between Techna and I.  Though that led to the reason.  Techna had totally disrespected Noobina and Finedragon.  Pretty much throwing away all the work they had done in TH|, and saying it didn’t matter, because he was the leader, and they couldn’t do as good of a job as he could.  This made them, and myself very angry.  I know first hand, and I can say this without thinking twice, that TH| would not have survived if it wasn’t for Noobina.  She did most of the work, and she was a great leader, in my eyes she was the leader of TH|, regardless that it was “Techna’s Hosue”.  Finedragon had stepped in later, and had donated and helped run the servers.  He was on more then Techna, and was definaitly doing an amazing job.  It was because of the disrespect shown toward the admins in TH| (Noobina and Finedragon), that we made [CMS].

All old members were welcome.  We had our own forum, servers were back up that night.  It was great, finally Noobina was getting the respect she deserved.  Later on I was made a moderator, and have been an admin on all our servers.  We later added Cod4 to the clan.  I did keep playing FEAR for a while.  I took more breaks though, to play Cod4 and TF2.  Last winter I really stopped playing fear though, after having a lot of fun, and getting better, the game was done.  I haven’t played it in a while, and certainly do miss it.  FEAR did so many things for my life, that some people couldn’t even uderstand.  I have met some truly amazing people, and the love of my life.  I was sad to see it go down the way it did.

Through 2008 I played cod4 and tf2 off and on again.  Never being serious in either one.  However, I have now made TF2 my number one game.  I still play cod4, I really like promod Snd, but cod4 just isn’t as fun as TF2 for me.  We added a TF2 server last month, and it has been great.  We are also going to be playing in TWL Team Fortress 2 season 4 this summer.  Which I am very excited about.  I have always done well in TF2, and in pugs, it will be nice to see how we do as a clan against other teams.
